Washington, D.C.— Today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-4) announced that Academy Award-winning filmmaker and Milwaukee-native John Ridley will join her for Tuesday’s State of the Union.

John Ridley is a renowned director, screenwriter, novelist, playwright and showrunner. He was the creator of the Emmy-winning “American Crime,” and received an Academy Award for screenwriting “12 Years a Slave.” He is the co-founder and CEO of No Studios in Milwaukee, which provides an affordable and accessible community space for local artists. No Studios (nostudios.com) is a space that brings people together to celebrate art in all forms. His idea was driven by his desire to support Milwaukee’s entertainment industry and foster economic growth.

“As an award-winning director, screenwriter, novelist, playwright and activist, John is bringing his talent and resources home to empower local artists. He is also a thoughtful advocate for communities of color and uses his platform to foster dialogue on issues that don’t receive enough attention. He is investing in Milwaukee because he sees the potential, the talent and our bright future. I am inspired by his mission and am thrilled that he is joining me to carry his message to the D.C. at the State of the Union.”
